"FISH - What To Do With Excess Inventory"

FISH stands for "First In STILL HERE"! There are good ways to dispose of excess inventory. These slow movers have taken inventory costs, handling costs to receive & putaway, and storage costs. It is money tied up and not going anywhere. Here are some ideas:

* Return Inventory to Vendor - Preferred avenue of choice. If vendor hesitates - go for an "exchange" on fast moving products.

* Tax Write-Offs:
  • EAL - Educational Assistance Ltd. accepts donations of new and used items from companies. We make these goods available to partnered accredited U.S. colleges and universities. These schools create scholarships of comparable value for college students who have demonstrated financial need.. www.glen-ellyn.com/eal or (630) 690-0010 or scholar@eduassist.org

  • NAEIR, the National Association for the Exchange of Industrial Resources, has provided over $1 BILLION in free, donated, excess inventory to schools and qualified nonprofit organizations since 1977 - www.naeir.org or 800-562-0955 or member@naeir.org or donor@naeir.org
* Auction / Discount Houses - Many auction & discount outlets exists. Good way to move inventory out, but one needs to watch out for potential price difference in channel conflict here, especially is products are expensive or strict on normal selling prices.

* Walmart Clearance Model - When it's time to move it, prices are slashed and will continue to be slashed until sold.

In conclusion - Explore options on a financial basis. Use one or methods, but BE DECISIVE - as FISH inventory can be UNLOCKED and money re-invested in more productive products & services. Philip Obal, President of IDII)

Impact In Software Design

Software designers should permit parts to be flagged that operations/purchasing now has this item marked for auction, charity, and/or clearance pricing. Reports, picking generation, and return/order generation should select these flagged items.

Scripture to Ponder

The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;
for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and fair;
for giving prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young -

let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance -
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
